Charles R. Ullman & Associates Takes Stand Against Bullying in North Carolina
Raleigh, N.C. (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- After learning of a local family’s tragic encounter with bullying, Raleigh family lawyer Charles R. Ullman said today that his law firm is joining the fight against bullying in North Carolina. He wants others to join, too.
“We need to find ways to stop a problem that is all too common in our state and across the country,” Ullman said. “We need to help children and parents who are struggling to find ways to deal with bullying in their lives. This is a very real, very serious epidemic.”
According to Ullman, his firm has given support to the Michael Morones Recovery Fund, which was created for the family of an 11-year-old North Carolina boy who recently attempted to take his life due to bullying that he received on account of being a fan of the show, “My Little Pony.”
“Fortunately, the attempt was caught and halted in time to save his life, but he sustained severe brain damage,” according to the fund’s website.
The site discusses the child’s faith and adds that “if Michael was awake right now, he would want to give nothing but forgiveness and love to the bullies who teased him so they would know what it’s like to be accepted without harsh words or violence.”
“I encourage people to visit the fund’s website and learn more about this extraordinary child and his family,” Ullman said. “I also hope people will learn more about bullying and make efforts to put an end to it in their community.”
Ullman said his law firm is promoting the fund through its Facebook page and will add content to its website to help families identify bullying and protect their child.
On the StopBullying.gov website, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services defines bullying as “unwanted, aggressive behavior” among school-aged children that involves “a real or perceived power imbalance.” Both the children who are bullied and the bullies themselves can suffer long-lasting problems, the website says.
Ullman pointed out that North Carolina passed the School Violence Prevention Act in 2009, which requires local school administrative units to adopt a policy that prohibits “bullying or harassing” and to develop and carry out strategies aimed at promoting school environments that are free of such behavior.
“In the home, parents can take a leading role by talking to their children about bullying and the very real consequences of it,” Ullman said. “It’s a conversation we must have.”
