Charleston's Daniel Island Named Among Country's Top Master Planned Communities
Charleston, South Carolina (PRWEB) July 30, 2015 -- For the fourth consecutive time, Daniel Island has been named among the “50 Best Master-Planned Communities in the U.S.” by Where to Retire magazine. Published every other year, the comprehensive list of places to retire is compiled following careful investigation by the magazine’s editorial staff, who look for access to opportunities for healthy living, social and community groups and diverse recreational amenities when reviewing the nation’s master planned communities. Communities in 16 states were included on this year’s list.
Part of the internationally-acclaimed city of Charleston, Daniel Island is a 4,000-acre sea island surrounded by 23 miles of rivers and creeks. It is home to a master planned community featuring traditional neighborhoods, award-winning golf and tennis facilities and an outstanding collection of amenities in a self-contained island town setting. The island's downtown is home to schools, churches, medical offices, boutiques, restaurants, banks, a supermarket, two professional sports stadiums and many other attractions and conveniences. Hundreds of acres of parks, leisure trails and a private country club provide endless recreational options, and the community's central location within Charleston puts it within a 20 minute drive of the city's famous downtown historic district, area beaches and airport.
Island resident Karen Papania, who was interviewed for the story in Where to Retire, retired to Daniel Island from New Jersey with her husband, Jim, in 2012. They were looking for a warmer client, but still wanted a change of seasons. They were not interested in living in an age-restricted community. Gardening and golf are among the activities that have kept them active and engaged on Daniel Island, and they’ve enjoyed meeting many new friends.
“You can be sitting on your porch, and people walk by and you start chatting with them. It has that Southern charm and appeal,” says Karen in the story. “Everyone is looking to meet new people because most people did not know anyone when they moved here.”
A highly-desirable residential destination within Charleston, Daniel Island attracts residents from around the country and the world. It has been honored with numerous other accolades including a prestigious “Award for Excellence” by the Urban Land Institute. The community is being developed by the Daniel Island Company.
