Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, an NDI-RS Customer, Announces Significant Drop in Crime in 2013
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, an NDI Recognition Systems (NDI-RS) customer, announced Wednesday that crime in the city dropped 5.5 percent in 2013. Chief Rodney Monroe credits the department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), which opened last March and monitors more than a hundred NDI-RS automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras along with other technology, with making a significant impact on the decrease in crime.
The RTCC supports patrol units and investigators throughout the city, helping them respond to crimes and providing intelligence to assist with investigations. Monroe stated that the RTCC’s technology was used in more than 800 investigations in 2013, leading to over 400 arrests. CMPD purchased NDI-RS ALPR cameras with federal grants from when the city hosted the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
The NDI-RS ALPR technology is overseen from the RTCC, a 24-hour command center staffed by trained detectives who provide the CMPD’s field officers with real-time crime analysis and visual reconnaissance. RTCC officers can provide field officers with alerts and background information on suspect vehicles based on license plate information, as well as monitoring situations using video cameras, document criminal activity, and track fleeing suspects.
