The Seahawks won the NFC West with a 12-4 record and at one point this season, was 3-3. After losing to St. Louis in week 7, many felt that the Seahawks would suffer the same fate as many of the most recent Super Bowl champions and not even reach the playoffs, but they won 9 of their last 10 games with a close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The University of Phoenix Stadium is the home of the Arizona Cardinals from the same NFC West division the Seahawks are from. The venue originally opened in 2006 and has already previously hosted a Super Bowl before, with the New York Giants claiming victory over the Patriots, 17-14, in front of 71,101 fans. The Patriots are hoping to have better luck in Glendale this year, however, the Seahawks on the other hand are looking forward to bringing home back-to-back Super Bowl victories.
