Chernoff Law Expands Criminal Defense Areas
Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 11, 2014 -- Chernoff Law, an established Houston-area law firm, has expanded its criminal defense areas. The firm now lists more than 20 criminal defense areas in which it practices.
Though the law firm practices in a wide range of legal areas, domestic violence is one of Chernoff Law's particular areas of focus. They provide advice and defense after domestic violence arrests. Chernoff Law advises that restraining orders are a common consequence of domestic violence, and that those charged with domestic violence may have to deal with a Class A misdemeanor charges along with employment and living-arrangement disruptions. The law firm also represents clients charged with child abuse, and employs investigators when necessary to reconstruct what happened.
Chernoff Law also provides defense against alcohol and drug related charges. The firm can provide a variety of approaches in DWI cases, including probable cause-based defenses and breath-test contestation. They also wade into intoxication manslaughter cases, examining factors like intoxication test methods as well as whether or not the defendant's intoxication directly caused the death. As for drug charges, Chernoff Law specializes in fighting illegal search and seizure as well as representing clients in high-level federal cases.
Firearm offenses are another area in which Chernoff Law practices. Though Texas has a reputation as a self-defense-friendly state, its penalties for gun infractions can be quite severe. For instance, the punishments for transferring a firearm illegally, improperly carrying a concealed handgun, or using a gun in the commission of a crime can all severely derail a defendant's life. Chernoff Law advises that getting experienced criminal defenders involved early in the case may go a long way towards having charges dismissed or reduced.
Additionally, Chernoff Law practices in the area of theft crimes, including identity theft, money laundering, and embezzlement. They also defend clients facing more traditional charges, such as burglary and shoplifting. The firm suggests several possible defenses against theft charges, and opines that arrests may be avoidable altogether with enough warning (as in the case of fraud investigations). Rounding out Chernoff's Law areas of practice are probation violations, vehicular-crime charges, Internet crimes, trespassing, mortgage fraud, and sex-offender registration.
