Chernoh Alpha M. Bah’s New Book Examines Causes of West Africa’s Social Conflict, Political Instability
Philadelphia (PRWEB) March 30, 2014 -- Author, journalist and political activist Chernoh Alpha M. Bah presents a collection of essays and articles that examine imperialist exploitation and causes of underdevelopment in Africa in his new book, “Neocolonialism in West Africa: A Collection of Essays and Articles” (published by iUniverse).
Bah draws on his experiences with active revolutionary work, political activism and as a journalist reporting and writing about politics, economic exploitation and human rights in this expansive collection. He discusses modern forms of Western exploitation of West Africa’s vast mineral and energy resources and explains how capitalist corporations and Western nations have worked to gain control of them.
“Neocolonialism in West Africa” looks at how West Africa’s economy and resources are controlled by the same forces that rig elections and promote wars and military coups in the region. The book also explores how Western corporations prop up the anti-democratic regimes that support their interests.
“West Africa’s transition from direct, colonial rule to ‘independence’ was supposed to usher in a new era of freedom,” Bah writes. “Instead, it has only changed the colonial bureaucratic structure, as imperialists continue to exploit the continent and its people.”
