Chicago Area Firm Launches Entrepreneurial Law Practice Group to Serve Start-ups
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 18, 2016 -- In reaction to a changing business environment and the rapid growth of start-up incubator projects in the Chicago area, Lavelle Law is introducing a new Entrepreneurial Law practice group. The 24 attorney firm is one of the first in the market to dedicate a specific practice group to the unique needs of start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures.
In making the announcement, Partner Kerry Lavelle explained the approach to serving this new client base. “There are two primary needs start-ups face. The first is the corporate formation and funding process which is then followed by many of the regulatory, tax and IP issues that these businesses face as they grow. We feel that Lavelle Law is uniquely positioned to serve both needs.”
Lavelle said that the firm’s experience in assisting small businesses, managing corporate tax strategies, protecting intellectual property, and banking law makes them well-equipped to aid start-ups. “In addition, in the past several years we have added attorneys skilled in venture capital, crowdfunding, and FINRA and SEC compliance to allow us to serve the growing number of companies coming out of the various small business incubators in this market.”
Lavelle notes that the landscape for new businesses is much different than just a few years ago. “The first major change is the new way in which funding is handled. There are more sources available, some of them entirely new such as online crowdfunding which can be a valuable asset to a new business but comes with a very specific set of legal requirements,” he said. “Not too many years ago new businesses were started by established businessmen and women who were producing products or specific services. Today new businesses are being started by a much younger demographic and much of what is being created is software-based making valuation and IP issues more critical.” Lavelle said that current partners in the firm will work with newer associates to combine skill sets so that entrepreneurs receive the legal and tax guidance that protects them from formation through what is often very rapid growth.
