Chicago Attorney Timothy Coffey Recently Participated in One Walk and Encourages People to Support JDRF
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) December 30, 2015 -- Timothy Coffey, a Chicago attorney, recently donated to the JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and participated in the One Walk with his children.
About 40,000 Americans are diagnosed every year with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). It is one of the most prevalent diseases in the world. The JDRF’s (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) goal is to achieve a world without Type 1 diabetes — a goal they have been striving for since their inception in 1970.
Indeed, the global village is plagued with the occurrence of many diseases, but none so prevalent as T1D. The JDRF is a truly global entity with international affiliates in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Israel, the Netherlands and Denmark. The main headquarters for the JDRF is New York City, but there are chapters and branches spread far and wide across the nation.
The JDRF continually makes major advancements by discovering drugs and pushing to make them available to those who suffer from T1D. They have invested close to $2 billion in various groundbreaking projects over the past four and a half decades.
The JDRF needs to raise funds on a continuous basis to keep the home fires burning. Their main fundraiser is the JDRF One Walk — an event in which Coffey and his children participate as often as possible. Coffey believes that the Foundation’s goal to one day turn Type One into Type None is realistic.
The JDRF actively funds $530 million in research projects in 17 countries and in 2012 alone provided over $110 million to T1D research.
Many of the Foundation’s stated goals include, but are not limited to: delivering an automated low-glucose suspend to predict and prevent severe blood-glucose lows; a treat-to-range that automatically keeps blood glucose levels in a specific range; an encapsulated product that provides insulin independence for more than one year, eliminating the need for chronic immunosuppression; and ground breaking therapies for beta cell survival and immune modulation that piggyback to prolong the period of insulin independence after diagnosis for more than two years.
