Chicago Startup Switches+Strings Redefines Guitar Rental for City Musicians.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 06, 2015 -- Switches+Strings has launched an innovative new subscription-based service aimed at disrupting the musical instrument industry. Hailed as the “Netflix of Music Gear”, the service grants unlimited guitar, bass, amp, effect pedal, and microphone rentals to Chicago and surrounding area musicians starting at less than $1 per day. The company currently offers two different monthly membership plans, each providing access to their warehouse of over 500 different musical instruments.
Switches+Strings was born out of Founder Kelly Bertog’s own decade-plus experience with playing music at home as well as live throughout Chicago area venues:
“As a guitar player of 15+ years, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the high cost of buying equipment, and the frequency at which I was peddling old gear through eBay and Craigslist. Playing with my Spotify account one afternoon, it dawned on me that if people have come to terms with subscription-models for consuming music, why couldn’t the same work for the musicians themselves?”
Fast forward to Fall of 2014, and Switches+Strings began beta testing its subscription services. The company has since rolled out delivery to a majority of the North and Northwest suburbs, as well as two dozen Chicago zip codes. They plan to offer 100% coverage of Chicago as well as a 50-mile suburban radius by the end of 2015.
Initial response to Switches+Strings has been strong across the city, with new musicians signing up daily to take advantage of unlimited monthly guitar rentals. This includes the team at Chicago’s Earhole Studios, a recording studio and sound production team that specializes in professional audio for some of the world’s top ad agencies, including locals Leo Burnett and DraftFCB.
