Oakland, CA (PRWEB) April 09, 2015 -- (Oakland, CA) April 2015 – “Women of Influence” is the next theme in the Local Celebrity Bartender series at the Oakland Marriott City Center Hotel this week. CJ Hirschfield, the Executive Director of Children’s Fairyland will be the local celebrity bartender this Friday, April 10th from 5 to 8 pm to raise money for the nonprofit Children’s Fairyland.
C.J. Hirschfield has served for 12 years as Executive Director of Children’s Fairyland, where she is charged with the overall operation the nation’s very first storybook theme park. Prior to that, she served as an executive in the cable television industry, as Vice President of Industry Affairs for the California Cable Television Association. As a former chair of the Oakland Library Advisory Commission, she’s particularly happy to be running a magical land devoted to storytelling, books and reading. C.J. is former president and current board member of the California Attractions and Parks Association, and serves on the boards of the Lake Merritt/Uptown Business Improvement District and Visit Oakland. She and her Oakland native husband David Stein raised all three of their kids here, and are happy to live in Adams Point, right next to the Lake. C.J. writes a weekly column for the Piedmont Post and Oakland Local, where she loves to showcase the beauty of her city and its people.
This Friday, April 10th, Oakland Marriott City Center will donate $1 for every food or drink item sold from 5 to 8 PM to support Children’s Fairyland. The renowned park features 10 acres of landscaped gardens, 40 storybook sets, 29 Magic Key-activated talking story book boxes, 17 farm animals, 4 child-sized rides, the longest running puppet theatre in the country, a celebrated Children’s Theatre program, and weekly toddler story time. Fairyland is the 23rd most popular Bay Area tourist attraction according to the SF Business Times bringing in 224,487 visitors in 2014.
Fairyland also offers special programs to the community that promotes social and emotional learning such as Jr. Animal Caretaker for children who have experienced trauma or are in foster care. The children interact with Fairyland’s animals over six weeks to build empathy and self-esteem.
