Children’s Hunger Fund Launches Two Mercy Networks in the Philippines
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- Children’s Hunger Fund announces the launch of their two new Mercy Networks in the Philippines which will distribute Food Pak boxes to needy families. A Children’s Hunger Fund Mercy Network is a collection of indigenous churches and NGOs who are trained to receive the food and other aid and then hand it out to families within their own communities.
The Food Paks contain meals provided by Children’s Hunger Fund’s “Think Inside the Box” campaign, which is raising 25 million meals for suffering families in the US and around the world. Unlike other international food charities, Children’s Hunger Fund uses a home delivery model where Food Paks are delivered to families by trained volunteers from within their own community.
“We want the needy families to establish a relationship with someone in their own community who can provide not only food, but other forms of service and aid,” says Dave Phillips, Founder and President of Children’s Hunger Fund. “The recipient family doesn’t need to know the name ‘Children’s Hunger Fund’. They need to know the name of a caring person who is there for them in their own neighborhood.”
The first new Mercy Network is on the island of Luzon, where Manila is located. The second is on the island of Cebu, the site of the “super typhoon” in 2013. It was Children’s Hunger Fund’s response to the typhoon relief and the subsequent rebuild which deepened relationships with local churches and other NGOs on the islands, leading to the creation of these new Mercy Networks.
Since the typhoon, Children’s Hunger Fund has sent bulk food, malnutrition packets, blankets, soup mixes, and toys to the children of the Philippines. The latest sea container is being sent to launch the new network in Luzon and contains 1,000 Food Pak boxes and playground equipment from CHF partner Kids Around the World.
A Food Pak box is 20 pounds of food containing about 48 meals for a family. In January 2015, Children’s Hunger Fund launched “Think Inside the Box,” a year-long campaign to send 25 million meals to suffering children. Because of dedicated volunteers and generous corporate partners, each meal can be provided for 25 cents. Information can be found at ChildrensHungerFund.org/THINK.
Children’s Hunger Fund currently has 28 Mercy Networks in the US, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
