Children’s Obesity Fund Helps Launch New Youth Activity League in Riverside
(PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi cofounded the non-profit, Children’s Obesity Fund, which is sponsoring a new youth activity league in California’s Inland Empire. Children seven years and older are invited to Hunt Park in the city of Riverside, to play sports and engage in active games three times a week. The non-profit will provide a donation that will be used for sports equipment, bottled water and healthy snacks for participants of the volunteer-driven children’s league.
“Activity, particularly outdoors, is key to combatting today’s obesity epidemic for children. Many of today’s popular pastimes are sedentary – video games, television, and the internet – so getting kids outside, running and jumping, breathing fresh air, that’s half the battle to ensuring our kids are healthy,” according to Dr. Michael Omidi, cofounder of the Children’s Obesity Fund. “Our charity is a proud supporter of Sylvia’s great work with mothers and their kids. This youth activity league is a terrific expansion, serving both the children in crisis in her homes and those within the surrounding community. We’re happy to help launch this new endeavor by providing sports equipment, water and snacks for league participants.”
On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the new Youth Activity League will meet at Hunt Park, located at 4015 Jackson St. Riverside, California. Volunteers will coordinate and coach boys and girls, ages seven plus, as they play games of football, basketball, softball, soccer and ultimate Frisbee.
This new children’s program is the brainchild of Sylvia Hernandez, the founder of several sober living facilities serving mothers and their children in and around the Riverside area. Hernandez suffered with addiction and struggled to care for her own children for many years. Following her own journey of recovery, she now channels her energy into providing homes for women who suffer from the same degenerative substance dependence. Cofounded by Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi, the Children’s Obesity Fund (http://www.childrensobesityfund.org) hopes to help reverse the trend of rising obesity rates in America. The goal of the non-profit charity is to help people fully understand the obesity issue and its dire impacts on individuals and society as a whole -- and to use that knowledge to encourage children to grow up strong and healthy.
