MIAMI, FL (PRWEB) September 25, 2014 -- Renee Zellweger is rumored to have one. Mickey Rourke did it, and according to recent year's entertainment news, it turns out that Marilyn Monroe did, too. The big beauty secret is chin implants – one of the fastest growing types of plastic surgery in the United States.
The reasons people seek chin implants vary. Some simply believe that a strong chin looks youthful. Others associate it with success – many successful business people, politicians and Hollywood stars have taut jawlines and well defined chins. Others are troubled by their “weak” or receding chins, a common problem that could indicate a genetic deficiency with bone structure, bone loss due to the natural aging process, or a facial trauma.
Of course, many of these reasons are personal and cosmetic – a receding chin does not necessarily indicate an underlying medical condition. People with weak chins can typically chew and speak normally, and many are fine with the shape of their lips and mouths. However, they want a stronger chin and jawline that will better define the face, improve symmetry and maximize facial attractiveness.
For those who may be content with the appearance and function of their lips and mouths, a receding chin can still create unbalance of the face’s profile. Cosmetic surgery from ARC Plastic Surgery in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area can restore facial balance through chin implants and other plastic surgery procedures. ARC is one of the leading cosmetic surgery practices in South Florida and is led by Dr. Jeremy White, one of few surgeons in the country to be board certified in both plastic surgery of the entire body and otolaryngology.
Types of Chin Implants offered at ARC Plastic Surgery:
A chin implant can be temporary or permanent. A temporary implant is normally done with a synthetic or natural injectable substance, for example Radiesse or the patient’s fat. Injectable implants can last up to a year, but the patient will need to come back periodically for “touch ups,” similar to what is done with Botox injections.
On the other hand, a permanent chin implant is usually sculpted of silicone and inserted into the chin during an outpatient procedure. A sedative or general anesthesia will be administered, and then the surgeon makes a small incision on the outside of the chin. The implant can also be placed via an incision in the mouth. However, this carries an increased risk of implant infection and disruption of the chin muscles.
After undergoing any type of chin implant procedure, patients can expect to encounter several common symptoms during the recovery process. There could be swelling or numbness around the chin, or a tight feeling while the skin stretches and adapts to the implant. Patients may also be encouraged to implement a liquid diet for a few days following surgery in order to minimize chewing and help keep the implant in place. A bandage will also be necessary for about a week following the procedure, and a brace may be required for a few weeks while sleeping.
