Jamaica, NY (PRWEB) August 19, 2015 -- Choices Women’s Medical Center launches “Sex Never Gets Old” A frank and informative Sex Ed Workshop Series Exclusively for Seniors”
“I may be a senior, but so what, I’m still hot!” - Betty White
“Sex without love is a meaningless experience but as far as meaningless experiences go, its pretty damn good.” - Woody Allen
These and other wise words on sexuality and aging help to create a safe and stimulating environment for seniors through the innovative new program, “Sex Never Gets Old,” developed by Choices Women’s Medical Center. For the past 44 years, Choices, located at 147-32 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica Queens, has been at the forefront of women’s reproductive health care and health education. In keeping with its mission to reach, treat and provide the highest standards of healthcare for women in all stages of life, Choices has launched a new health initiative designed for seniors.
“Sex Never Gets Old” combines factual and frank information about safe sex, the different types of STDs, their symptoms, treatments, testing and prevention with a bit of wry humor and quotes about senior sex from the likes of Betty White, Woody Allen and other iconic seniors. Each workshop ends with a Q&A session that is comprehensive, lively, full of humor, brutally honest, and sometimes quite poignant.
According to the CDC, and as reported by the NY Times, AARP, WebMD, Psychology Today and most major publications and health related web sites; sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are spreading like wildfire among the senior population. Incidences of STDs are up between 30% and 50% for diseases like syphilis, chlamydia and herpes and by the year 2017, 50% of all people, living in the United States with HIV, will be over 50.
Education is the key to slowing the spread of STDs for all people, young or old. According to Choices Outreach Workshop leaders, Kelly Mallinson and Marylou Greenberg, “with just a bit of prompting, the seniors abandon the generational taboos about talking openly about sex and admit that it is a vital part of their lives, that it helps with loneliness and that it just plain feels good.”
Choices offers “Sex Never Gets Old” workshops, free of charge, to senior retirement communities, community centers and assisted living facilities throughout the five boroughs of New York, Nassau and Suffolk.
“Sex Never Gets Old” is part of the new Choices senior initiative that includes cardiology services and testing for cardiovascular diseases. Under the direction of well-known cardiologist Dr. Perry Frankel, Choices will offer convenient office hours and access to men and women interested in the finest in cardiovascular care.
