Christian Publisher Helping Hands Press Acquires AuthorHouse Title “Emma Jean Reborn”
Bloomington, IN (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Author Solutions, LLC, a Penguin Random House company and the world leader in indie book publishing, announced Wednesday that Christian publisher Helping Hands Press has acquired AuthorHouse novel “Emma Jean Reborn,” by Kathi Macias and Dr. Cupid R. Poe.
“My co-author and I are so pleased that ‘Emma Jean Reborn’ has been contracted by Helping Hands Press, and we are also grateful to AuthorHouse for its original publication of this book, which helped us get the ball rolling and the book out there in the public eye,” said Macias. “We are so appreciative of AuthorHouse's support and professional interaction throughout this process.”
The novel focuses on Emma Jean Cooper, nicknamed “Emma Jean Two” by her father. She was born in 1966, in the small town of Crooked River, Arkansas, where poverty and prejudice were rampant. Emma Jean grew up with plenty of both; her father was active in the Ku Klux Klan. Her mother, raised in a dysfunctional, abusive situation, was unable to cope with the death of her first daughter, also named Emma Jean, and so transferred that daughter's identity to Emma Jean Two, claiming she was the reincarnation of her dead sister. Emma Jean's traumatic childhood was spent daydreaming of a better life somewhere—anywhere—away from her family.
An African-American classmate named Sadie Garret, a preacher's daughter, finally gives eighteen-year-old Emma Jean Cooper the courage she needs to escape her racist, abusive environment. Literally running for her life, Emma Jean hitchhikes to California in search of something better. The experiences of the next few years are beyond anything Emma Jean could ever have imagined but only serve only to turn her back toward home to confront prior evils.
Back in Crooked River, Emma Jean takes refuge with her former classmate Sadie and, eventually, in an African-American church, where she begins to learn the secret to overcoming her past and establishing her own identity for a positive future. Though loosely based on a compilation of true accounts, “Emma Jean Reborn” is purely a work of fiction.
“We congratulate Kathi and her co-author, Dr. Poe, on the acquisition of this poignant work by Helping Hands Press,” said Keith Ogorek, Author Solutions senior vice president of marketing. “Kathi specifically has had a long association with Author Solutions, as a member of our Indie Author Council. She is a talented writer and an enthusiastic supporter of indie publishing and indie authors.”
Helping Hands Press will re-release “Emma Jean Reborn” in popular e-book formats on August 3, with the print re-release to follow shortly thereafter.
