Christians for Biblical Equality and Ekklesia Foundation for Gender Education to Host Conference on Gender Equality in the Church in Kenya
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 29, 2016 -- On September 22-23, 2016, Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) and Ekklesia Foundation for Gender Education (EFOGE) will host a conference on gender justice and Christianity in Bondo, Kenya.
The conference, “Truth be Told: Engaging Faith Leaders, Understanding the Bible for Justice and Equality,” will dovetail with CBE’s conference “Truth be Told: Speaking Out Against Gender Based Violence” being held in Johannesburg, South Africa, September 14-17.
According to Rev. Domnic Misolo, founder and president of EFOGE, the conference will “present the biblical truth of gender equality in order to counteract common biblical misinterpretations in the church and society that portray male dominance as God’s ideal and isolate women from exercising their God-given gifts and talents. As God’s equal image bearers, we need biblical truth to set us free from traditions and cultures that continue to put one gender (men) over another (women).” Misolo believes this church-sanctioned gender-based hierarchy has dire consequences, saying it “ignites waves of violence, abuse, and oppression against women and girls.”
This conference is the fruit of a deep and lasting partnership between CBE and EFOGE, says CBE’s president, Dr. Mimi Haddad. “EFOGE was born in partnership with CBE, thanks to the leadership and vision of Rev. Misolo. From its inception, EFOGE has taken the lead in sharing the biblical ideal of equality between men and women and is already transforming communities. Misguided biblical interpretation is being challenged, families are valuing their girls as they value their boys, and girls are finishing school. World leaders recognize that empowering girls to participate as equals in society is a key to ending improving the lives of communities worldwide. We shouldn’t be surprised; after all, this is the ideal set forth in God’s Word. It is exciting to see the movement take hold around the world through partnerships with organizations like EFOGE.”
CBE and EFOGE partnered to host a conference on polygamy in 2015, and plan regular conference in future years as well.
