Christians for Biblical Equality Announces 2015 Priscilla and Aquila Awards and Micah Awards
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) August 03, 2015 -- At its recent conference, “Becoming New: Man and Woman Together in Christ,” Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) recognized leaders with its 2015 Priscilla and Aquila Awards and Micah Awards.
At each CBE conference, CBE presents three sets of awards: the Lifetime Achievement Awards, the Priscilla and Aquila Awards, and the Micah Awards.
The Priscilla and Aquila Awards honor those who have made sacrifices for their advocacy of women’s leadership in the church, just as the biblical figures Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives for their Christian beliefs (see Romans 16:4). This year’s Priscilla and Aquila Award recipients were Dr. Jacqueline Roese and Rev. Frank Stevenson.
Dr. Roese is a pastor and was the first woman in 40 years to preach at Irving Bible Church in Dallas, TX. She is also the founder and president of the Marcella Project, a ministry devoted to "ennobling women through Scripture-focused teaching, training, and dialogue."
Rev. Frank Stevenson licensed 15 female preachers in his Nashville church, though his denomination does not support women's ordination. He was stripped of his credentials and his office.
“The courage of Dr. Roese and Rev. Stevenson is an inspiration to us all. We thank them for their courage, wisdom, and commitment to upholding the Bible’s teachings on gender equality,” said Dr. Mimi Haddad, president of CBE.
CBE’s Micah Awards honor those who exhibit courage, creativity, and tenacity in opposing abuse and advancing justice for women and children in Christ’s name. The 2015 recipients were Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, JD and Xana McCauley.
Dwamena-Aboagye worked for 24 years as an attorney in Ghana and 22 years as a women’s rights activist, working on legislation regarding issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, and female genital mutilation.
Xana McCauley serves in full-time ministry at Rhema Bible Church in Johannesburg, South Africa. The first woman ordained in her church, she is also the co-founder of Hands of Compassion, Rhema Bible Church’s social services ministry. McCauley is also the founder of CBE South Africa, which will host CBE’s September, 2016 conference, “Truth Be Told” in Johannesburg, South Africa.
“I cannot say enough about these two powerful leaders,” said Haddad. “Both Dwamena-Aboagye and McCauley are simultaneously addressing the patriarchal ideas that underlie the abuse of women and the devastating consequences of abuse. I am in awe of both these women.”
CBE’s 2015 Priscilla and Aquila, Micah, and Lifetime Achievement award recipients were honored on July 25, 2015, at CBE’s conference in Los Angeles, CA.
In its effort to advance a biblical foundation for gift-based rather than gender-based ministry and service, CBE sponsors annual conferences, facilitates local chapters, hosts an online bookstore and publishes two award-winning journals. For more information, visit http://www.cbeinternational.org.
