Christians for Biblical Equality Conferences Joins Partners to Share Egalitarian Teachings in South Africa, Kenya
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 30, 2016 -- In a highly anticipated event, almost 2,000 people, along with high-profile leaders and local media packed into Rhema Bible Church in Johannesburg, South Africa on September 14 for the kickoff of Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) for its first ever conference in South Africa, “Truth be Told: Speaking Out Against Gender Based Violence.”
“Truth be Told” was held September 14-17 in Johannesburg, South Africa and was hosted in partnership with CBE-South Africa, Gender Equality Matters, and Rhema Bible Church. The opening session featured well-known Rhema Bible Church pastor Ray McCauley and was highlighted by South Africa’s Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, who spoke on gender based violence, a session now available to the public at no cost.
“Truth be Told” focused on the link between gender based violence and church teachings. According to CBE’s president, Dr. Mimi Haddad, women around the world suffer because the Bible’s message is skewed by patriarchy. “The Bible teaches a consistent message of liberation and equality for women alongside men. Unfortunately, virtually all cultures are saturated with patriarchal values that cause us to misunderstand and misapply biblical principles. This regularly results in granting divine legitimacy to the devaluation of women. Our conference exists to correct this grievous error.”
CBE partnered with Publish4All, a global Christian printing network, to ensure that each attendee left the conference with resources. For many attendees, the impact was immediate and significant. “We thought man was made in God’s image and woman was made in God’s image” said a group of women after reading one of CBE’s resources for the first time.
Following “Truth be Told,” CBE shared its message at a conference in Cape Town and joined its longtime partner, Ekklesia Foundation for Gender Education, for “Truth be Told-Kenya” a follow up conference in Kenya, held September 21-23. CBE’s presence in Africa is the fruit of ongoing partnerships with local leaders.
“God is doing amazing things through our partners in South Africa and Kenya, and has been for years” said Haddad. “I am thrilled to see these partners leading the global egalitarian movement.”
In its effort to advance a biblical foundation for gift-based rather than gender-based ministry and service, CBE sponsors annual conferences, facilitates local chapters, hosts an online bookstore, and publishes two award-winning journals. For more information, visit http://www.cbeinternational.org.
