Christians for Biblical Equality to Participate in Carter Center Forum
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) January 27, 2015 -- Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE) is pleased to announce that its president, Dr. Mimi Haddad, will participate in the Carter Center’s 2015 Human Rights Defenders Forum. Dr. Haddad will join prominent human rights and religious leaders from around the world in developing strategies to elevate the status of women and girls globally. Together, the will explore the role of religion in advancing the shared leadership and equality of women alongside men.
This partnership is a testament to CBE’s ongoing efforts to educate Christians around the world about the biblical case for the equality of women. “That CBE has been invited to this forum signals a recognition by world leaders that patriarchal religious teachings are a key driver of the oppression of women globally—something CBE and egalitarian Christians have been saying for years” said Dr. Haddad. “I look forward to sharing what CBE has learned in its 27 years of advocacy, as well as learning from some of the world’s foremost advocates for women. I am honored to represent CBE at this important event.”
The forum will be held February 7-10, 2015 at The Carter Center in Atlanta, GA and will build on themes presented in President Carter’s book, “A Call to Action: Women, Religion, Violence and Power.” The four-day event will consist of a two-day, closed forum for delegates followed by a two-day public forum chaired by President Carter. The public forum will include panels on developing inclusive leadership, confronting sexual violence, and preventing violent conflict.
In its effort to advance a biblical foundation for gift-based rather than gender-based ministry and service, CBE sponsors annual conferences, facilitates local chapters, hosts an online bookstore, and publishes two award-winning journals. For more information, visit http://www.cbeinternational.org.
