Chromecast Offers Quick Solution

While the tech world remains skeptical of the device, technology and marketing expert Jason Hennessey of Everspark Interactive says Chromecast doesn't have to be great to be the best on the market.
When Chromecast officially became available in July, it differentiated itself from other stream-to-TV devices by its whittled-down design: the device is nothing more than a thumb drive that plugs into televisions and grabs media from a chosen laptop or mobile device. Chromecast has already garnered both acclaim (CNN, 07.25.2013) and criticism (CNN, 07.31.2013), but Hennessey says it's neither great nor terrible – it's realistic.
“This isn't the next iPad. It isn't the next anything,” said Hennessey, who built Atlanta-based Everspark into the SEO and marketing leader it is today. “It just uses clever engineering to get around the problem that's been crippling the streaming media niche for years.”
That problem, according to Hennessey, is simplicity: device designers have struggled to get content from a variety of paid subscription-based providers, while most users just want an easy way to put whatever they've found online onto their TV sets.
“With Chromecast, anything you can view in a tab on the Chrome browser you can watch on your TV,” Hennessey said. “It's not exactly an elegant solution. It's a brutal solution, and it works.”
Hennessey says that theoretically, other streaming devices outperform Chromecast by cutting out the browser-based design (which lowers video quality), but that isn't what users are clamoring for.
“Literally anyone can plug this in and stream their media. It's simple and easy,” Hennessey said. “And that's why Chromecast sold out before it even reached shelves.”
