Chronic Noncancer Pain Treatment Published by Dove Medical Press
(PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- Journal of Pain Research has published the original research “Pharmacotherapeutic management of chronic noncancer pain in primary care: lessons for pharmacists”.
As corresponding author Dr Lalonde says, “A cohort study of 486 primary care patients with chronic non-cancer pain reveals that pain control and the management of adverse gastrointestinal effects from their analgesic treatment are less than optimal.”
Dr Lalonde continues,“Patients’ overall satisfaction is low particularly regarding information about pain and its treatment, and treatment efficacy. These results underline the potential for pharmacists to play a pivotal role in providing information, discussing barriers to pain treatment, monitoring pain disability, and by appropriately managing pharmacotherapy to optimize effectiveness while minimizing adverse effects.”
As Dr Schatman, Editor-in-Chief, explains “This study is noteworthy in that it clearly demonstrates the ability of community pharmacists to play a pivotal role in pain management within primary care.”
