CIT and Arlington County to Host SBIR/STTR Workshop
Herndon, VA (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) announced today that it has partnered with the Arlington County Office of Economic Development to host a Department of Defense Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Grant Workshop.
SBIR and STTR grants provide $150,000 to $1 million in early stage research and development funding for high-risk, new technology development. Eleven participating federal agencies use this program to fund early-stage technology development that will help them meet their missions.
The workshop will be held on August 6, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. It will focus on the Dept. of Defense SBIR/STTR programs and is ideal for those targeting their September 25 deadline for SBIR and STTR grants. Presenting will be John Davis, from the SBIR Resource Center, John Williams, Navy SBIR Program Manager, and Frank Barros, Department of Homeland Security SBIR Program Analyst. Session topics include how the DoD SBIR/STTR programs work, how to plan your approach and how to write a winning proposal. A networking lunch will be provided.
The Dept. of Defense SBIR/STTR programs are the largest SBIR/STTR programs, with over $1.2 billion available each year. The next DoD SBIR and STTR solicitation will open on August 25 and close on September 25. Topics will be posted on July 25.
CIT leads the efforts in Virginia to support the SBIR/STTR community through low-cost training, free mentoring, specialized referrals, and “Phase 0” grants that link companies to professional SBIR/STTR consultants.
The workshop costs $75 for Virginia-based technology firms and $175 for out-of-state firms. It will be held at the Arlington County Economic Development Offices, 1100 N. Glebe Road, 15th Floor, Arlington, Va. For more information, please visit http://www.cit.org/events. Please direct any questions to Robert Brooke, at (703) 689-3080.
