Citizens Medical Center Selects Access to Go Paperless with E-Forms and Electronic Patient Signature in Patient Registration
Sulphur Springs, Texas (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- “Keeping up with paper forms was a constant challenge—making sure we had enough and that they were current versions,” said Vicky Harjes, Director of Patient Access at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, Texas.
It’s a familiar story for hospitals, medical centers and health systems: dealing with the financial and productivity costs of managing preprinted paper forms, plus the hassles relating to version control and supply. Then there’s the challenge of patients filling out redundant information on multiple forms in the admissions packet and the wasted time involved in scanning and manually indexing these hand written documents.
Harjes and her colleagues decided that transitioning to e-forms and electronic patient signatures was the solution. After evaluating several vendors, they chose Access.
“Access’s system seemed like it was the easiest to use, and we can’t wait to get away from paper,” Harjes said. “Electronic signatures and e-forms will make things easier for patients and our registration clerks.”
One way that the Access solution will benefit patients is by removing the need to enter the same information on multiple forms. Instead, patient demographics will be mapped from MEDITECH onto each e-form and patients will be able to apply secure electronic signatures. The Access system then will send the completed packet into the correct EHR in MEDITECH. Citizens Medical Center IT Director Russell Witte is looking forward to the positive impact on patient satisfaction.
“Patients often wonder why they can use electronic signatures at a grocery store but not at the hospital,” Witte said. “Our ability to offer this with Access will make us look good and will make registration more convenient for patients.”
