City of Jasper to Save More than $3.6 million in Energy Costs with Schneider Electric
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) July 10, 2015 -- Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management and automation, along with the City of Jasper, Ala., today announced a citywide energy renovation program to save energy costs and reduce carbon emissions. The $2.8 million contract marks major upgrades to the City of Jasper facilities, including an almost century-old city hall. The project will amount to more than $3.6 million in energy savings over the next 20 years.
In recent years, Jasper has been challenged with increasing energy and operational costs due to its aging infrastructure that consumes increasing amounts of energy over time. The city has also had to cope with aging technology that it has not had the funds to modernize. Thanks to a capital recovery and reinvestment program with Schneider Electric, Jasper is now able to implement major mechanical, electrical, IT and building envelope renovations throughout the city without being a financial burden for citizens.
Schneider Electric will install its building automation technology to connect city facilities, providing comprehensive data and actionable insights about how the city uses its energy. Jasper will also receive installation of new HVAC systems, telecommunications systems and citywide interior and exterior lighting upgrades. Once completed, the city will have utility and maintenance costs reduced by 26 percent annually, allowing this savings to be reinvested in other improvements and projects in the city.

Jasper’s $2.8 million initiative includes more than 16 facilities and incorporates a variety of energy efficiency upgrades to reduce energy consumption through:
• Interior and exterior lighting upgrades and controls
• New HVAC systems at city hall, the police station and the Percy Goode Community Center
• Electrical infrastructure upgrades at city hall for new HVAC
• Building envelope improvements in city facilities including new insulation, compartmentalization, weather stripping, door seals and window film
• New VoIP telecommunications systems city wide
• Heating system decentralization at city hall
• Natatorium energy improvements
• New plumbing and water fixtures to reduce water consumption
• Building automation system connecting facilities across the city via smart meters
In addition to energy cost savings, the project will generate environmental benefits equivalent to planting 8,368 acres of trees a year or powering 931 homes.
