City of Miami Beach To Offer Comprehensive Substance Prevention Program to the Community
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) March 03, 2018 -- Family Recovery Specialists’ Founders, Ray Estefania and Ana Moreno, are honored to partner with the City of Miami Beach in offering a comprehensive, six-part, substance use prevention program to the community beginning March 1st at 7pm at the Miami Beach Golf Club. The goal of the program is to provide the most current information to parents and teens on how to prevent adolescents and young adults from developing a problem with substances that could lead to serious consequences.
“The city identified a need and has engaged us to offer this program to the community,” said Ray Estefania, Executive Director of FRS. “The drug problem among teens in our area is huge. Now with marijuana legalization and the very alarming epidemic of opiate overdoses among our young people, it is even more critical for parents to understand the potential dangers and learn what they can do to encourage their kids to be drug-free.”
Topics covered will include adolescent brain development, effects of substances on teen thinking and behavior, what parents need to look for, the dangers of marijuana, technology and social media, what parents can do to encourage healthy decision making in their children and what to do if you know someone who has a problem. This program will be free and open to parents, students and anyone in the community that is interested in learning more about the consequences of teen substance use and how we can prevent young people from developing a drug problem.
Treatment of addiction does work, but it is much easier to address the problem before it escalates to a serious substance use disorder. Preventing by educating kids from using substances is the only way to ensure they won’t develop a problem later on in life.
The program will consist of 6 workshops that will begin on March 1, 2018 at 7pm, and will run through the month of April. They will take place at the Miami Beach Golf Club at 2301 Alton Road.
