Civic Duty Supports Art Show/Fundraiser – Featuring Performance Artist David Garibaldi – for Leukemia Society
(PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- Civic Duty applauds the tireless fundraising efforts of the thousands of friends and loved ones of those stricken with ghastly blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. One such warrior is Abe Snobar, the organizer of a special art auction fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and its Man and Woman of the Year campaigns. Civic Duty is donating to this cause, adding to the proceeds of this special April 24, 2014, event in Sacramento, California.
“Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma together caused more than 54000 deaths in 2013. They have accounted for nearly 10% of all cancer deaths in 2013,” says Civic Duty cofounder, Dr. Michael Omidi. “Though there have been large strides towards long term therapy and permanent remission, we are still a long way from where we need to be. We wholeheartedly praise the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society in its difficult but successful mission to bring hope and health to patients and their families suffering from this illness.”
Several notable personalities from Sacramento Kings organization and other local celebrities will be on hand for the event which benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its Man and Woman of the Year campaigns. The auction and show will be held:
Thursday, April 24 – Doors open at 7pm with the show beginning at 8pm
at The Crest Theater, 1013 K Street, Sacramento, California

A variety of art pieces will be available for auction throughout the show but the evening’s featured guest will be renowned performance painter and Sacramento native, David Garibaldi who will also offer some of his own paintings for auction. Garibaldi’s (http://www.garibaldiarts.com) specialty is a "Rhythm and Hue" stage act in which he rapidly creates paintings of notable rock musicians and other well-known figures. In 2008, Garibaldi toured Canada and the U.S. as the opening act for the Blue Man Group and has also opened for Snoop Dogg. He has performed at many special events, having painted portraits of basketball player Jeremy Lin during halftime of the New York Knicks game in 2012, Jesus on the cable TV show The 700 Club in 2009, and Mick Jagger at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum in 2006.
Thursday’s event is coordinated by Abe Snobar, a passionate fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who was a Man of the Year candidate in 2013. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man, Woman and Students of the Year campaigns are fundraising competitions held across the U.S. in which participants vie for recognition as the year’s most effective and productive LLS fundraiser. These titles are awarded to the men, women and students who raise the most funds during the ten-week campaign. For the April 24 event, the candidate who brings the most guests will receive the larger portion of the show’s proceeds for their campaign. All funds will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to pay for more blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors.
In addition, every year a Boy of the Year and Girl of the Year are selected as the focus and motivation for the campaign. The Sacramento area’s 2014 Boy of the Year is 11-year-old Garrett Heisinger and the Girl of the Year is Emily Love, who is only 3.
