Clínica Tepeyac’s 2013 Fiesta Encantada Marks a Time to Celebrate and Give Thanks
Denver, Colo. (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- Clínica Tepeyac’s friends and long-time supporters will honor the non-profit health clinic’s proud history of caring for Metro Denver’s most vulnerable residents at its annual “Fiesta” fundraising gala. Clínica’s 2013 Fiesta Encantada kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on September 28 at the EXDO Event Center – 1399 35th St., located in lower downtown Denver.
Fiesta is known for its eclectic entertainment and mouth-watering cuisine, but it is also a time to honor notable members of the community for their outstanding commitment to Clínica. Dr. Patty Baca will be presented with the “Corazon Y Alma Award” (Heart and Soul award), not only for her active support of Clínica over the past decade, but also for her tremendous philanthropic achievements, particularly in the area of education. Dr. Baca is currently an education and training consultant with the Center for Network Development. She is retired from Denver Public Schools where she held a variety of positions, most notably as the first bilingual teacher, and the first Latina Deputy Superintendent in Denver History.
For his continuous dedication to Clínica Tepeyac, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Jenkins will be honored with Clínica’s “Outstanding Volunteer Award”. Dr. Jenkins, a retired internal medicine physician, has volunteered at Clínica every Wednesday for the past four years and has made it his personal mission to improve his Spanish every week. To this end, Dr. Jenkins has participated in several one-month immersion programs in Mexico and Costa Rica. “I feel that my efforts in Spanish provide an instant bond with the patients at Clínica Tepeyac and encourages them to realize that it’s never too late to learn something new,” says Dr. Jenkins.
“The Fiesta is a great opportunity for us to recognize those individuals who have selflessly shared their time and talents on behalf of the most vulnerable members of our community,” says Clínica Tepeyac Founder and Executive Director Jim Garcia. “Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Baca epitomize the spirit of volunteerism and an inspiration for our our entire community..
