Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker Tour Central Florida
Orlando, FL (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- Exciting! Lively! Delightful! Enchanting! These are some of the remarks from the audience last weekend when the cast of Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker performed before Congresswoman Corinne Brown and members of the community. The event, a celebration of the Congresswoman’s birthday, also served as the kickoff to the 2013 Central Florida tour of Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker.
From the first beat of the music, many in the audience tapped their feet and bobbed their head along with the music featuring jazz interpretations of “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky, arranged by Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. The dancers performed many dance styles including Jazz, liturgical, ballet and hip hop throughout their exhibition, showing much skill in execution.
Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker is written and produced by Mrs Beverly Page for Orlando Community Arts. It is a trademarked adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman’s holiday classic “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”. In Mrs Page’s version, Clare receives a Chocolate Nutcracker from her Aunt Pearl for Christmas. The Chocolate Nutcracker comes to life during Clare’s Enchanted Dream. Clare and her Chocolate Nutcracker leave Harlem to travel around the world, visiting many lands including Candyland, Rain Forest, Spain and the Caribbean.
This a cast of hundreds, with performances by the Standing Ovation Talent Group of Orlando, led by Terri Burns, Crystal’s World of Dance of Lakeland FL, led by Crystal Brown, The Jones High School Master Singers, led by Andrea Green and several local freelance dancers.
Principals of the show include Amber Jessica Taylor as Clare and Karon Montgomery as the Prince. The role of Sugar Plum Fairy is performed by two young ladies, Abby Marie Santiago, Little Miss Universe USA, and the first Latina to win the Florida State Cup of Florida in gymnastics, and Daizysha Brown, a high school student who is a US Patent Holder, and fashion designer who has had lead roles in The Black Nativity for 2 consecutive seasons. The roles of Clare’s younger siblings are played by Christian D. Deloney as her brother Fritz, and Gabrielle Harris as her sister Clarissa. Ericka Dunlap, Miss America 2004, and the first African American to be crowned Miss Florida, has been cast as Clare’s Aunt Pearl.
The Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker Tour continues with a performance for the Orange County Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. on December 5 at the Orlando Science Center. There will a special performance reserved for school students and seniors on December 13 at the Bob Carr PAC. Tickets for this “Arts In Education” performance are $10 each, and are available at 407-403-5519. The tour will continue with an appearance at the District 6 Washington Shores Community Christmas Parade, sponsored by Commissioner Samuel B. Ings. The cast will then perform an excerpt from the show at the Orlando Airport on December 14.
