2007 Domaine Du Pourra La Reserve Gigondas is a Gigonda wine with a distinction that is obvious from the moment that it is poured into a glass from the bottle. This is a red wine, but it's color is almost black when it is decanted. It has a spicy aroma with a taste of dark fruit, lavender, cherry, and blackcurrants. It has a full body, with firm and rich tannins and a finish that comes from the mineral-rich soil where it is produced. As you finish taking a sip you will recognize notes of violet and licorice. These subtle and well-blended notes make this a wine that is good to enjoy now and is only expected to improve as it ages.

This excellent French red wine is produced at the Domaine du Pourra winery by winemaker Jean-Christian Mayordome, who entered the business after a successful medical career. He operates a 62-acre winery located high above most of the surrounding area that is only accessible by vehicles that are able to operate off-road. Mayordome purchased the winery in 1998 and grows grapes using vines that were planted between 1962 and 1970. A wide variety of grapes are employed in Gigonda wines, which must consist of 80 percent Grenache grapes and can have up to 10 percent of grapes from the Mourvedra and Syrah varieties as well as several others. The winery is located in the southern portion of the Rhone Valley, and is named after the village of Gigondas which is located in this region.
