Classe Wines Has Limited Quantity of 2009 Dona Matilde Douro Vinho Branco
Vienna, VA (PRWEB) August 02, 2013 -- Classe Wines has only a limited quantity of 2009 Dona Matilde Douro Vinho Branco in its inventory, and this product will become more difficult to obtain when the remaining cases have been sold. The present inventory represents an opportunity to sample a high-quality Portuguese white wine that is similar in many respects to more expensive vintages from elsewhere in Europe.
Experts found this wine to be crystal clear in color, with aromas that include melon, passion fruit, rainwater, and citrus fruits. The experts were divided as to whether there was a taste of jasmine present in this wine. It has an earthy taste that is a reflection both of the skill of the winemakers as well as the quality of the soils in which it is grown. The level of acidity is balanced, and the taste is reminiscent of the mineral soils of the Douro valley. The experts had high regard for this vintage, which they noted has a long consumption window ahead of it, with the wine expected to improve in quality for quite some time in the years to come. This particular wine was awarded the bronze medal in the 2010 international challenge.
This wine is produced at the Dona Matilde winery, which is currently under the stewardship of Angelo Manuel de Barros, whose grandfather purchased the farm in 1927. The Dona Matilde winery gets its name from Dona Matilde de Barros who was the wife of family patriarch Manoel de Barros. Thus, the current winemaker operates a winery that was acquired by his grandfather and bears the name of his grandmother, and it has fallen out of family ownership only briefly in the intervening years. The entire farm is 230 acres in size, and 70 of these acres are devoted to winemaking in vineyards that have achieved the Douro Valley’s highest rating. The remaining acres are devoted to gardens that include oranges, roses, as well as trees bearing fruits and nuts. This alone makes a visit to the winery enjoyable for reasons other than just the high quality of the wines that it produces.
This high-quality Portuguese white wine from the Douro Valley is available from Classe Wines for a cost of $26.95 per bottle, with a half case priced at $158.47 and a full case priced at $313.70.
