The running tracks and athletic fields at O.H. Platt and Francis T. Maloney High Schools recently underwent major reconstruction with Classic Turf Company serving as the general contractor.
The playing surfaces at both fields were converted from natural grass to synthetic grass fields. Synthetic grass fields are more durable, require less maintenance and increase playability and provide multi sport uses.
Meanwhile, the asphalt running tracks were completely removed and replaced with a post tension concrete base. Using a patented post tension cable design from Classic Turf Company, the new state-of-the-art tracks are just the second and third of their kind installed east of the Mississippi River. The first one was constructed in 2015 in Burlington, CT by Classic Turf Company.
Post tension concrete running tracks offer many advantages over asphalt ones. In most cases and especially in colder climates, asphalt tracks experience problems such as structural cracking within just a few short years. The post tension technology used by Classic Turf Company is weather resistant and will last a lifetime, making it a more prudent investment than asphalt. Classic Turf Company combines the post tension concrete base with their patented Classic Elastic Track which utilizes a thermal and pressure-cured, precision manufactured elastic base that is coated to the substrate.
Based out of Woodbury, CT., Classic Turf Company has constructed many tennis courts, basketball courts and running tracks for schools, communities and private property owners throughout the state and country. Classic Turf Company’s combination of post tension technology and their patented Classic Elastic Running Track has become the new industry standard for running track construction.
