Clean Fuels Ohio Celebrates Alternative Fuels in Ohio
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) September 22, 2014 -- The use of alternative fuels has increased dramatically in the past decade, based in large part on increased concern about greenhouse gas emissions and energy security. But for fleets that want to make the conversion, there are still many obstacles in their way. Enter Clean Fuels Ohio (CFO), a resource to help Ohio businesses consider all their alternative fuel options and set up their operations to take best advantage of these choices.
On Sept. 23, fleets of all types can take advantage of CFO’s expertise in a daylong event focused on alternative fuels. Sessions on the economic and environmental benefits of using alternative fuels and efficiency technologies in fleet operations will be followed by an exhibition of vehicles and technologies and a discussion of alternative fuels policy.
CFO’s 3rd Annual Celebrating Clean Fuels Fundraiser will take place Sept. 23 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. The day will also feature the Ohio Green Fleets Awards Luncheon and a Celebrating Clean Fuels Fundraising reception.
“We have been so fortunate to assist a variety of businesses and organizations in exploring the advantages of alternative fuels,” said CFO Executive Director Sam Spofforth. “We can help organizations decide on the best fuel, and can help them locate grant funding to support their programs.”
Many considerations are involved in making the decision to move to an alternative fuel: the type of products the fleet is handling, the type and distance of routes, the variety of vehicles in use, and available fueling stations. “Since CFO is both a nonprofit organization and fuel and technology neutral, we can introduce organizations to all the options and help them make the best selection for their own situation,” said Spofforth.
CFO worked with the City of Columbus when it began its ambitious move to alternative fueled vehicles. “Mayor (Michael) Coleman made the commitment that we would build our own fueling infrastructure to support this alternative vehicle program,” explained Kelly Reagan, the city’s fleet administrator. “Clean Fuels Ohio helped us get underway.” The city now operates a number of fast-fill CNG stations and electric vehicle charging stations, all open to the public.
CFO has also provided funding to support alternative fuel programs within Dillon Transport and the Mid-America Region of Frito-Lay. “The support of Clean Fuels Ohio has really helped us take this effort very seriously in Ohio,” said Glenn Reynolds, region fleet manager with Frito-Lay. In addition, the Northwest Ohio Pike-Delta-York School District worked with CFO to secure funding for new propane-fueled buses and a propane fueling station.
CFO has also played a critical role in assisting the renewable energy industry with its support of quasar energy group, a national leader in anaerobic digestion and renewable natural gas (RNG). “Our partnership with Clean Fuels Ohio allowed us the opportunity produce alternative motor vehicle fuel and the funding to build a CNG/RNG public refueling station in Ohio,” said quasar President Mel Kurtz. “We can do something about energy right now.”
