Cleanbirth.org Has Mother’s Day Cards That Save Moms and Babies
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- Your mom gave you life, give her a gift that saves lives – a Mother’s Day card from Cleanbirth.org. These unique cards come in a hand-stamped bag and the proceeds will be used to bring two mothers and their babies in Laos birthing supplies and safe birthing education. There are also e-cards and printable cards available at the Cleanbirth card shop, which can be found at cleanbirth.org/mothers-day-card-shop, or on Etsy at CleanBirthGifts.
“Mother’s Day cards can mean even more when they’re from CleanBirth.org, not only are the cards a beautiful gift, but they also help mothers and babies in need,” said Kristyn Zalota, CleanBirth.org founder and director. “Proceeds from sales of the cards go to providing birth kits and training for nurses in Laos.”
CleanBirth.org works to prevent the needless deaths of mothers and babies in Laos, where maternal and infant mortality rates are among the highest in the world. In the villages where CleanBirth.org operates, women give birth alone, usually in unhygienic conditions with a high risk of infection for the mother and her new baby. To make birth safer, CleanBirth.org works together with Association for Community Development (ACD), a Lao nonprofit, to distribute AYZH Clean Birth Kits. Further, they train nurses in each village to distribute the kits and educate mothers in their use. Cleanbirth has provided 4,000 birth kits since 2012 and trained 180 village nurses.
About Cleanbirth.org:
CleanBirth.org was founded in 2012 and is led by Kristyn Zalota, a Yale-graduate, trained doula and childbirth educator who has spent her career focused on projects that empower women in the developing world. From 2008-2011, she worked with Burmese, Cambodian and Ugandan women and saw that prenatal and postnatal care was largely unavailable. Motivated to make birth safer, she learned about AYZH Clean Birth Kits, birthing supplies proven to reduce infection and death. Having learned about the dire state of birthing in Laos, she partnered in 2012 with ACD to bring Clean Birth Kits and birth education to southern Laos.
