Climeco Announces 1st Carbon Offset Credit Registration for Lenz Composting Project
Boyertown, PA (PRWEB) January 04, 2016 -- ClimeCo Corporation is pleased to announce that the Climate Action Reserve has registered 10,611 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction credits (ERCs) to Lenz Enterprises for emissions reduced at its Greenblenz organic waste composting project located in Stanwood, WA.
Each of the 10,611 Climate Reserve Tonnes (CRTs) signifies one metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions reduction. Based on EPA estimates, the reductions of this project would be comparable to the removal of more than 2,400 passenger vehicles from the roads over the course of one year. CRTs issued by the Climate Action Reserve are among the highest quality offsets available, developed under the rigorous requirements of the Reserve’s Organic Waste Composting protocol and reviewed by a third-party CAR-approved verifier.
Landfilling of food waste and food-soiled paper results in the anaerobic decomposition of the waste, releasing methane, a potent greenhouse gas (GHG). By composting this waste, Lenz Composting avoids landfilling and the resulting methane emissions, and instead produces a high-quality organic compost product with a number of positive environmental attributes. The compost’s organic matter and nutrients improve the water retention capacity of soil, allowing for the conservation of water resources and improved plant growth and vigor.
ClimeCo is pleased to add this project to its large portfolio of voluntary and compliance GHG offset projects. This is the fourth composting facility partner for which ClimeCo has achieved registration of emission reduction credits. ClimeCo also works with a number of other types of project partners engaged in the avoidance of emissions from Nitric Acid production, the capture and destruction of methane emissions from agricultural operations, and the destruction of ozone-depleting refrigerants.
10,611 CRTs were issued to Lenz Enterprises for emission reductions generated during 2014. 2015 emission reductions will be registered with the Climate Action Reserve during the first half of 2016.
