Clinical Genomics & Informatics Europe Announce New Keynotes & Final Program
Needham, MA (PRWEB) August 06, 2013 -- Bio-IT World and Cambridge Healthtech Institute today announced the final program and keynote lineup for the Fifth International Clinical Genomics & Informatics Europe Conference. The three-day event will be held 4-6 December 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal and will bring together the international science and informatics communities to discuss the latest strategies for analyzing, interpreting and implementing the huge amounts of sequencing data now available. Keynote presenters include Dr. Anne Cambon-Thomsen of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Dr. Niklas Blomberg of ELIXIR, Dr. Timothy Hubbard of Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and Dr. Hans-Hilger Ropers of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics.
Dr. Anne Cambon-Thomsen, Research Director of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, currently leads an interdisciplinary research team on genomics, biotherapies and public health. She is heavily involved in several EU projects, advisory boards and associations in genomic sciences, public health and biobanking and serves on the national birth cohort ELFE as president. Dr. Cambon-Thomsen will present "The Ethical Dimensions of Data Sharing and the Maze of Identifiability."
Founding Director of ELIXIR: The European Research Instrastructure for Life Science Data, Dr. Niklas Blomberg, will share new efforts for storing, integrating and analyzing data with ELIXIR's e-infrastructure. Dr. Blomberg holds a Ph.D. from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and plays an active role in advancing industry research as a national e-Science advisor. Prior to joining ELIXIR, Dr. Blomberg was responsible for creating AstraZeneca’s cross-disciplinary computational chemistry team in support of respiratory, inflammation and autoimmune research.
As the Head of Human Genome Analysis at Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Advisor to NHS England’s 100,000 Genome Project, Dr. Timothy Hubbard has been a lead advisor for a multitude of research initiatives, including the advisory council of the RIKEN Genomic Sciences Center, the Expert Group on European research infrastructure for genomics, bioinformatics, animal resources, proteomics, and structural biology of the European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures, the advisory board of UK PubMedCentral, the steering group of the National Genetics Reference Laboratories and the E-Health Records Research Board of the UK Government Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research. Dr. Hubbard holds a Ph.D. in Protein Design from the Department of Crystallography, Birkbeck College. Dr. Hubbard will deliver a timely presentation on how to implement whole genome sequencing.
Dr. Hans-Hilger Ropers is the Director at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics and Honorary Professor for Human Genetics at Humboldt University. He also heads the Biomedical Class of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. During his time at the Max Planck Institute, Dr. Ropers’ team has successfully employed positional cloning and related strategies to elucidate molecular defects underlying various genetic disorders, including inherited forms of blindness, deafness and mental retardation. Dr. Ropers will discuss the importance of new sequencing techniques and opportunities for speeding their clinical implementation.
This year’s event will feature four main tracks on Clinical Exome Sequencing, High-Scale Computing, RNA Sequencing and Transcriptome Analysis, and Genome Informatics. In addition, two pre-conference Symposia will be held on Tuesday, 3 December on Clinical Epigenetics and Digital Detection Techniques and Applications.
Each conference track offers interactive discussion, networking and Q&A sessions to maximize audience participation. Attendees also have the opportunity to submit a research poster to be displayed to the international delegation of life science, pharmaceutical, clinical, healthcare, and IT professionals.
