CMD Announces Philadelphia Athletic Recreation Center as 2016 AEC Cares Project
ATLANTA (PRWEB) February 17, 2016 -- CMD, one of the leading providers of construction information in North America, AIA and Hanley Wood Media today announced the Philadelphia Athletic Center as the recipient of AEC Cares’ sixth annual “blitz build.” This year’s build, titled projectPhiladelphia, will unite construction professionals from around the country to renovate the inner-city Philadelphia recreation center on May 18, 2016, one day prior to the AIA National Convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Used by hundreds of children in the Sharswood neighborhood for after school and sports programs, the Athletic Recreation Center is in desperate need of repair and upgrades. During the “blitz build,” AEC professionals will improve the center’s main entrance, lobby space, after school art room, performance space and more.
“Through our local partnership with AIA Philadelphia and the Community Design Collaborative, AEC Cares will give the Philadelphia Athletic Recreation Center a much needed facelift. We’re thrilled to work together with the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department to create a facility that is warm, inviting, and beautiful,” said Laura Marlow, senior director of business development and strategic partnerships at CMD and AEC Cares executive director. “All children should have access to an athletic facility that helps them get the healthiest possible start in life, and AEC Cares will bring together architects, designers, contractors, product manufacturers and volunteers to make that happen.”
CMD, AIA and Hanley Wood Media have joined forces the past six years, during AEC Cares’ annual build, to raise awareness and provide community support for worthwhile projects across the United States. In 2011, these groups collaborated to rebuild five homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Subsequent projects included revitalizing houses for homeless teens in Washington D.C. and transforming a 30-year-old former school building into a cheerful up-to-date daycare and early learning center for impoverished children in Chicago’s Southwest Side. The most recent project included revitalizing an inner-city Atlanta shelter for youths in crisis.
