CME Outfitters to Host Live Symposium on MDD at National Meeting for Physician Assistants
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) April 29, 2017 -- A CME Outfitters (CMEO) live symposium on major depressive disorder is set to take place on Tuesday, May 16th from 6:30-8:30pm ET at a national annual conference for physician assistants (PAs) being held at the Mandalay Bay South Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. This symposium, entitled Integrated Care Strategies to Address the Impact of Residual Symptoms on Functional Outcomes in MDD, focuses on optimizing management of all symptoms in patients with the pervasive disorder that is major depressive disorder (MDD).
Depression is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, affecting individuals, families, businesses and society, and is commonly seen in patients seeking care in the primary setting. While 55% of patients will respond to treatment with the initial prescribed antidepressant, even those patients who achieve remission can experience residual symptoms that can drastically inhibit functionality and increase the risk of relapse and recurrence of MDD. Although challenges do exist, MDD can be effectively managed. A critical component effective management is the clinician and patient coming together to mutually define what remission means to the individual patient and working together towards achieving long-term remission.
Moderator Roger S. McIntyre, MD, FRCPC, will be joined by Catherine Judd, MS, PA-C, CAQ-Psy, DFAAPA, and Gregory W. Mattingly, MD, for this symposium to present new perspectives on treating MDD and highlight residual symptoms as a challenge to clinicians, as well as ways to engage with patients to optimize management of all symptoms. This event, supported by educational grants from Takeda Pharmaceuticals U.S.A., Inc. and Lundbeck, will provide PAs with the education needed to confidently recognize the relationship between residual cognitive symptoms and functional impairment in patients with MDD, assess all of the symptoms of MDD including cognitive and residual symptoms with a validated screening tool at each visit, and engage patients in shared decision-making to optimize their treatment options to manage all symptoms of MDD.
