CNC to Observe Certified Clinical Nurse Leader℠ Day
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) March 13, 2018 -- Today, the Commission on Nurse Certification announced the observance of Certified Clinical Nurse Leader℠ Day, which will be held on March 19th. Certified CNL Day promotes the positive impact certified CNLs have on the healthcare delivery system. On this day, CNC will join healthcare professionals around the nation in recognizing certified CNLs who have advanced their careers by earning the CNL credential.
“This year, CNC encourages certified CNLs to share their professional journey by telling peers how earning the CNL credential has helped them improve patient care,” said Shantal Hall, director, CNC.
In 2007, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) created the CNC as an autonomous certifying body to oversee policies and procedures for the CNL Certification Program. Since then, more than 6,000 professional nurses throughout the United States, and internationally, have earned the CNL credential. Educated at the master’s degree level, CNLs oversee care coordination and the integration of care for patients.
“It has been proven that certified CNLs have significant impact on healthcare delivery,” added Hall. “Anecdotal data from healthcare executives show that CNLs have helped to identify opportunities for improvement and greater efficiency in patient care. In so doing, these nursing professionals have been instrumental in helping healthcare teams achieve targeted goals, performance measures, and sensitive nursing indicators.”

Studies show that, by engaging CNLs, medical facilities have enhanced their healthcare delivery system by:
- Improving patient-centered care and patient satisfaction;
- Enhancing critical thinking and innovation by staff;
- Improving unit efficiency;
- Better coordinating care across the healthcare setting in complex situations;
- Increasing safety at the point-of-care (POC); and
- Instituting continuity and consistency at the POC for physicians and other disciplines.
These professionals put evidence-based practices into action to ensure that patients benefit from the latest innovations in care delivery. Although CNL skill sets vary across health care settings, in general, the CNL evaluates patient outcomes, assesses cohort risk, and has the decision-making authority to change care plans when necessary.
