CNPR Certified Representatives Explain How the Pharmaceutical Industry Revenues Bounced Back This Year
Fort Myers, FL (PRWEB) February 25, 2015 -- Pharmaceutical sales rumors have been swirling for a little while, but most Certified National Pharmaceutical Representatives believe that job security comes down to work ethic, due to the pharmaceutical sales revenues continued growth.
Growth in U.S. sales of pharmaceuticals bounced back, as rebates and low-cost generic drugs drove an increase in the number of prescriptions filled, according to data tracking firm IMS Health. U.S. pharmaceutical sales climbed 5.1 percent to $300.3 billion, after two prior years of slower growth.
In response to the economic downturn, drug makers have been offering co-pay coupons and other programs to help patients pay for their prescriptions. Those programs combined with offers on low-cost generic drugs from Walgreens and other retailers to drive sales.
“Some of those factors enabled demand to grow in what was overall a tough economic period,” said Murray Aitken, senior vice president with IMS.
Also boosting sales were pharmaceutical price increases between 3 and 4 percent, roughly even with historical hikes.
In response to the increased demand, most companies prefer candidates to have a four year degree, as well as some type of pharmaceutical sales training.
If you are an entry level candidate for pharmaceutical sales positions it is important to meet the employer requirements to successfully obtain interviews. Industry recruiters and human resource professionals look for applicants with pharmacology and science education. The CNPR® Certification training and certification provides such education which will lead to meeting minimum pharmaceutical sales requirements.
The National Association of Pharmaceutical Representatives® (NAPRx®) has developed the CNPR® Certification program to educate candidates so that they will be able to differentiate themselves from other candidates. The majority of entry level candidates do not know enough about the pharmaceutical industry, drug patents, FDA regulations, CDER regulations, laws governing the pharmaceutical industry, the anatomy, pharmaceutical terms and abbreviations, drug sampling rules, effective physician selling skills, pharmaceutical selling guidelines & regulations, managed care, etc.
