Co-Founder of Law Firm of Marasco & Nesselbush to Be Named ‘Pawtucket Person of the Year’
Providence, R.I. (PRWEB) October 27, 2014 -- Marasco & Nesselbush, LLP, Rhode Island’s premier personal injury and Social Security Disability law firm, announced today that co-founder Donna M. Nesselbush has been named the first-ever "Pawtucket Person of the Year."
The award will be presented to Nesselbush during the upcoming annual dinner and induction ceremony for the Pawtucket Hall of Fame, and will honor her unique contributions to the city. In addition to maintaining an active law practice, Nesselbush also represents Pawtucket and North Providence in the Rhode Island State Senate.
“I am humbled and honored to be named Pawtucket's first ever, "Person of the Year." I love this city, and it’s amazing to be counted among the exceptional women and men chosen for induction to the Pawtucket Hall of Fame,” Nesselbush said. “In my work as a lawyer and a state senator, I have always sought to help others, especially the underdogs.”
This is the first year Pawtucket has presented the Person of the Year award. The Pawtucket Hall of Fame was founded in 1986 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the City of Pawtucket.
Nesselbush will receive the honor at the Pawtucket Hall of Fame 23rd Annual Dinner and Induction Ceremony, which will take place Oct. 28 at the Le Foyer Club in Pawtucket.
According to an article on the news site GoLocalProv, the Pawtucket Hall of Fame Committee is recognizing Nesselbush for advocating civil rights and championing the Senate Marriage Equality bill, which helped make marriage equality the law in Rhode Island. She has also sponsored legislation to help homeowners avoid foreclosure, protect victims of crime and safeguard workers from exploitation and worked with the homeless, disabled and victims of domestic violence.
“Victory has many parents, and so many worked so hard for so long” said Nesselbush of the advocacy required to enact marriage equality in the Ocean State. “Marriage equality was indeed a giant step forward for the entire state of Rhode Island, and I am happy to have played a role in its passage.”
As an attorney, Nesselbush has dedicated her legal career to helping people, specifically in the area of Social Security Disability law. She has represented hundreds of Social Security Disability claimants and is the founder and chair of the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Social Security Disability Committee. She is an active member of the American and Rhode Island Associations for Justice and a Sustaining Member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives.
A graduate of Brown University and Suffolk University School of Law, cum laude Nesselbush is fluent in Spanish and also serves as Chief Judge of the Pawtucket Municipal Court and Vice President of the Municipal Court Judges’ Association.
Nesselbush’s previous honors include the distinguished Ada Sawyer Award from the Rhode Island Women's Bar Association and appreciation awards from Crossroads Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless. While at Brown University, she received the Sarah Doyle Prize “for making a significant contribution to women on campus and in the community,” and at Suffolk she received the Leo J. Wyman Award.
