Cody Sanderson is a shining star at Sorrel Sky Gallery
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) April 29, 2015 -- Sorrel Sky Gallery of Santa Fe will host a one-man show with Cody Sanderson, one of the top jewelry artists working today, on Fathers Day weekend. Cody will display many new pieces from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 19 at Sorrel Sky Gallery, 125 W. Palace Ave. in Santa Fe.
The renowned and award-winning Navajo jeweler is known for his imaginative and even playful style, and yet he is very serious when it comes to his finished work. Such talent and an eye for detail is why Cody’s list of accolades reads like a “Best Of” list for the awards circuit. Since bursting onto the scene at the 2002 Santa Fe Indian Market in 2002, Cody has been honored by countless organizations including the Smithsonian Institution and the Southwest Association for Indian Arts. One of his most famous pieces, a sterling silver Rubik’s cube, won Best in Show at the prestigious Heard Museum collection. It is no wonder why Cody is considered a superstar in the world of Navajo jewelry. Sorrel Sky owner Shanan Campbell Wells goes even further in her praise for Sanderson and his work.
“Cody is one of the most sought after artists working today and it’s an event every time he shows his new pieces,” Wells said. “His work is so cutting edge and we can’t wait to see what he’s been working on.”
It’s hard to say what Cody does best, because his talent is revealed at every step in the creative process. His unique designs are a result of hours of experimentation, and his hands-on craftsmanship shows itself through the not-so-exciting techniques of stamping, forging, casting and bending. No detail is overlooked from conception to completion and it’s what sets Cody Sanderson apart from any of the artists in his field.
“I really enjoy waking up to know I’m going to create something,” Cody said. “A new day is a new piece.” His one-man show is a must-see event for all who appreciate the fine art of jewelry making.
Sorrel Sky Gallery’s fresh approach to Western art presents a select collection of contemporary and traditional fine art and jewelry for the discerning collector. Sorrel Sky Gallery was founded in Durango, CO in 2002 and opened its Santa Fe, NM location in 2014. It represents more than 60 painters, sculptors and jewelers including bronze artist Star Liana York, painter Billy Schenck, and Ben Nighthorse, among others.
