Coffee Crafters Celebrates Launch of Green Coffee Bean Co-Op
LIBERTY LAKE, WA (PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- Coffee Crafters has announced that as of the beginning of this month, its new green coffee bean co-op is in operation.
“There aren't many green bean suppliers for small quantities in the U.S., which means there are only a few good solutions for coffee roasters who are looking to buy green beans,” said Coffee Crafters President Ken Lathrop.
Now, small coffee roasting businesses or at-home roasters will have a cost-effective way to buy green beans directly from Coffee Crafters, which also sells affordable, professional-grade coffee roasting machines.
The goal, Lathrop said, is to help small coffee roasting businesses get started and grow at their own pace. “We wanted to find a solution for our customers who just started roasting and didn't want to buy an entire bag of beans; we wanted to sell beans that they could make money on for roasters who are just starting,” Lathrop explained. “Once they expand, we can hand them off to the importers that we deal with in order to help them grow their businesses.”
Cost often serves as a barrier for people to start small roasting businesses or even just roast enough coffee for their own families at home. “It’s usually $400 to $450 dollars per bag, plus shipping costs,” said Lathrop, “and what most sellers do is open the bag and double the price for those looking to buy quantities below 130 pounds.” Coffee Crafters, however, is buying in bulk to get better prices and cut down on shipping costs from Seattle.
The company then efficiently repackages the beans and offers them to smaller consumers. The buyers can even mix and match blends without having to buy large quantities.
Lathrop said that green beans in these small amounts would usually cost $7 or $8 a pound; through the co-op, it’s closer to $3 or $3.30 per pound.
And though the program has been going for less than a month, feedback has been very good thus far, Lathrop shared. “People are having the same thought they had when they first saw our machines: Why are you selling this so cheap? The answer is simply that we mark up a lot less than our competitors, passing savings on to our customers.”
