CollegeOnTrack Expands to Offer Community College Information
Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) February 25, 2015 -- This week CollegeOnTrack added over 2600 community colleges and technical training schools to the post-secondary institutions covered by its system.
Users now see these additional post-secondary institutions along with four-year colleges and universities when they search using career names, areas of study, special needs accommodations, etc. This new capability supports President Obama’s American College Promise proposal by helping students find places to start their post-secondary education at little or no cost.
About two thirds of of the 3.3 million students who graduate American high schools each year go on directly to post-secondary studies. Roughly 40% choose a community college or technical training institute, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. This percentage is likely to increase dramatically if students can take advantage of the President’s proposal. Those seeking 4-year degrees could cut their college costs almost in half by starting at community colleges for two free years, then transferring to 4-year institutions.
The new community college/technical school information, which is included in all CollegeOnTrack accounts, is especially valuable for schools where a high percentage of students are interested in skilled trades, or need to go to work immediately after high school. Marketing V.P. Phil Roybal says, “Our schools have been asking for a way to serve students who aren’t looking for four-year colleges. Now we can help.”
CollegeOnTrack’s advanced search capability makes it easy to find technical institutes. “Pilot”, for instance, isn’t a college major, so it doesn’t show up in many college search engines. But typing “Pilot” into CollegeOnTrack’s search bar will find institutions across the country where one can learn to fly.
