Colorado Whitewater Rafting Company Opens for the Season
Buena Vista, Colo. (PRWEB) April 16, 2015 -- River Runners, a whitewater rafting company on the Arkansas River in Colorado, announced it is now running rafting tours with advanced reservations and will be open daily May 1 - September 7, 2015.
A dry spring has brought snowpack totals from well above average to below average, but industry managers hold a positive outlook for whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River in Colorado this summer, according to Travis Hochard, general manager, River Runners.
“The total snowpack for the Arkansas River Basin is below 70 percent of average, but upper basin totals are near normal with a big snowstorm in the forecast later this week,” Hochard said.
Water managers expect the Voluntary Flow Management Program, an agreement to move water on the Upper Arkansas River for recreation, to be implemented this summer, according to Rob White, park manager, Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA).
“Snowpack in the upper basin is near average and the outlook for the Voluntary Flow Management Program is positive,” White explained. “Considering the current conditions the AHRA expects the full allotment of 10,000 acre feet will be available for whitewater recreation from July 1 – August 15.”
This is good news for rafting outfitters on the Arkansas River, which are used to having quality rafting conditions nearly every year, according to Justin Peevler, operations manager, River Runners.
“The flow management program is unique to the Arkansas River and is just one of the reasons why we always have enough water to boat,” Peevler said. “It’s still early, but right now we expect good rafting conditions all summer long”.
River Runners offers guided river trips from two locations on the Arkansas River in Colorado – at the Royal Gorge and at Browns Canyon. Raft any date May 1 – Labor Day.
