Columbia Southern University helps raise $50,000 for Relay for Life
ORANGE BEACH, ALA. – (PRWEB) September 16, 2015 -- Columbia Southern University (CSU) recently joined more than 15 other South Alabama businesses to help raise $50,000 at Alabama Gulf Coast Relay for Life event on Sept. 12.
The annual event, which raises funds in the fight against cancer, was held on the lawn of The Wharf in Orange Beach and featured approximately 10 relay teams and 300 cheering them on.
“Columbia Southern University is so proud to be a part of this event each year,” said CSU Director of Employee Activities Vicki Barnes. “We had 38 survivors attend the luncheon at Heron Pointe at The Wharf at noon on Relay Day. That is why we walk: for hope and to celebrate more birthdays.”
The day also featured the “beautiful and surreal luminaria ceremony which is held to remember people we have lost to cancer, to support people who currently have cancer, and to honor people who have fought cancer in the past,” explained Barnes. “The power of this ceremony lies in providing an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope.”
The CSU team raised almost $9,000 for the local cause and will participate in future events of Alabama Gulf Coast Relay for Life.
As a proud supporter of the local community, CSU has also participated in other charitable events such as back-to-school efforts, Red Cross blood drives and food drives.
