Comanche County Medical Center Improving Patient Care with Summit Express Connect
Braintree, Massachusetts (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- As hospitals strive to meet EHR Meaningful Use Stage 1 and 2, they need to unite many different systems and feeds. The trouble is that doing so typically requires purchasing individual interfaces, which soon takes its toll on limited IT budgets. To overcome this challenge, Comanche County Medical Center (CCMC) selected Summit Express Connect, a versatile interface engine, to integrate feeds and applications across multiple departments at this critical access hospital.
Before deploying Summit Express Connect, CCMC’s radiologists read images from their PACS system, called in to transcribe them, and then went into MEDITECH to enter data and e-sign. With the new data feed, CCMC has eliminated the steps of calling in transcriptions and logging in to e-sign, expediting the process.
“Now that our PACS feed is in place, turnaround time is so quick for our radiologists,” said Ismelda Garza, CIO at CCMC. “They can read images and provide feedback without patients having to wait or come back, which is crucial as we serve a wide area. Summit Healthcare’s solution has definitely improved patient care and the radiologists love it.”
With a limited budget and staff, CCMC aims to do more with less when it comes to healthcare IT. As Summit Express Connect enables the hospital to integrate an unlimited number of feeds in multiple departments, Garza feels like the system is providing value for money as CCMC splits its ADT feed for transcription, 340B prescription reports, e-forms and more. The facility is also leveraging the PACS interface for its telehealth radiology feed and other uses.
“Just integrating our PACS feed with Summit Healthcare’s solution provided full return on investment, and we’re finding new uses for it all the time,” Garza said. “The product is making my life easier, because it allows us to set up new feeds in a day and to easily make customizations when we need to send additional data between systems.”
Choosing an integration partner involves more than just selecting the appropriate technology that meets functionality requirements. A successful project also requires a vendor that understands the healthcare industry, provides an easy to use solution and delivers on their promises.
“I’d give Summit 10 out of 10 as a vendor,” Garza said. “From sales to implementation to support, everyone I’ve dealt with has been knowledgeable, helpful and readily available to answer questions.”
