Comcast, NBCUniversal and zeebox Back [itvt]’s TVOT NYC 2013 Hackathon in New York City
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- [itvt], the most widely read and trusted news source on multiplatform interactive and social TV, today announced it will hold its first-ever NYC-based hackathon, to kick off its East Coast TV of Tomorrow Show event, TVOT NYC 2013. Supported by industry titans Comcast, NBCUniversal and zeebox, this hackathon aims to design and build TV and video applications and demonstrate unique creativity around a range of TV platforms, technologies and user experiences, including TV Everywhere, binge-viewing, second screen, game consoles, next-generation cable set-top boxes, smart TV's, gestural control, voice control, automatic content recognition, augmented reality, rich interactivity, big data, metadata, gamification, personalization, audience participation, social media integration, geolocation, transmedia storytelling, and more.
The TVOT NYC 2013 Hackathon will feature a range of prizes including a grand prize of $6,000, sponsored by Comcast, NBCUniversal and zeebox. Other finalists and runners-up will also receive prizes for their efforts from participating sponsors such as Gracenote, TMS, Samsung and others.
“Comcast and NBCUniversal are heavily invested in driving innovation, expanding our service offerings, and bringing new and rich content to more platforms than ever before. The TVOT NYC 2013 Hackathon is a great opportunity for us to support a community that shares our passion for seeking to define what's next for our industry,” said Corey Farrell, executive director of architecture and technology, Comcast Strategic Development.
“zeebox is delighted to sponsor the TVOT NYC 2013 hackathon. Through our develop.zeebox.com site we’ve made a great set of zeebox functionality available for developers. For example, we ingest closed captions live from hundreds of TV channels and run them through a natural language processing system to create a real-time set of feeds to everything being spoken about on TV. Developers can tap into that to power e-commerce projects, game, and more. This type of innovation and creativity is what gets us excited for a gathering like what we’ll see on December 10th at the hackathon.”
WHO: [itvt], the producers of the TVOT conferences, teamed with Comcast, NBCUniversal and zeebox to bring this widely-acclaimed Hackathon to NYC. The organizers created a forum that brings together hackers and creatives to envision and build what will be the TV of Tomorrow.
WHEN: The TVOT NYC 2013 Hackathon will last 24 hours, and food, drink and snacks will be provided. The event will kick off at 12:00pm ET on Tuesday, December 10th.
WHAT: The first-ever TVOT NYC Hackathon will kick off the internationally-recognized TV of Tomorrow Show (December 11th) in New York City. Hackers will be challenged to envision the TV of Tomorrow by conceiving, designing and building TV/video apps and experiences, primarily—though not exclusively – using technologies, platforms, content and knowledge contributed by the TVOT NYC 2013 Hackathon sponsors. Participants will be judged primarily on the originality, elegance and usefulness (viability, scalability, monetizability etc.) of the app or experience they create.
The finalists will then be showcased and the winner selected December 11th in a special session at the TVOT NYC 2013 event, a gathering that attracts many of the leading lights of the advanced-TV industry.
