Comic Book Classroom Partners with City of Denver for Youth One Book, One Denver
Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 22, 2014 -- Comic Book Classroom (CBC), a Denver-based nonprofit designed to help promote literacy through pop culture—including its popular Denver Comic Con and Literary Conference (DCC), today announced it has partnered with the City of Denver to provide supporting curricula for this summer’s Youth One Book, One Denver program. The 2014 book will be announced on June 17, 2014.
CBC will provide various curricula ranging from one-day studies involving critical thinking and the arts, to a multi-week curriculum in which students will create an entire comic book around subject matter and characters from the Youth One Book, One Denver program.
“CBC has been putting the pieces in place for a number of months so that we can execute on partnerships such as this one with Youth One Book, One Denver,” said Illya Kowalchuk, CBC’s director of education. “This is the first in a number of programs we’ll be rolling out to engage kids with pop culture on a large scale.”
Youth One Book, One Denver, designed to engage kids in literacy and support summer reading, reaches approximately 2,500 kids between the ages of nine and 12. The youth program modeled after Denver's citywide book club, One Book, One Denver, created to build community and stimulate reading.
On June 17th the book will be announced on the City of Denver’s website and on Comic Book Classroom’s digital media.
