COMLINK Further Grows Detroit Region Presence with Construction of Royal Oak Network
East Lansing, MI (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- Network, voice, and cloud services provider COMLINK announced today that it has partnered with the Royal Oak Schools and the city of Royal Oak, MI to build a new, fiber optic network throughout the metro area, providing city buildings, district schools and area businesses with access to high-speed fiber connectivity.
The new 16-mile network adds to COMLINK’s already expansive 800 network fiber miles in Greater Detroit, and the network of more than 5,500 miles that runs throughout Michigan and the Midwest. The new network is the result of a unique public-public-private partnership between the Royal Oak Schools, the City of Royal Oak, and COMLINK. “This is a great example of the win-win situations that can be created when the public sector partners with private industry,” said Shawn Lewis-Lakin, superintendent of Royal Oak Schools. “When we recognized our need for a reliable fiber network to connect our facilities, we reached out to the City of Royal Oak and invited them to work with us on the project. When COMLINK came to the table, we realized that we had a unique opportunity for a project that would benefit not just all three entities, but our community and region.”
“The new fiber optic ring in the Royal Oak area is a boom to the City of Royal Oak and the Royal Oak School District, and a sign of COMLINK’s continuing commitment to Greater Detroit and the Michigan economy,” said Barry Raterink, Vice President of Business Development for COMLINK. “Royal Oak’s schools and city offices will now be able to transport critical data and video on their own network.”
The expansion is the most recent move in COMLINK’s aggressive strategy to bolster its network presence in Michigan, especially in Greater Detroit. COMLINK acquired the fiber network assets of Michigan Lightwave, which provided fiber and telecommunications service throughout Macomb County. The Macomb County network was originally built to provide high-speed connectivity among all the schools, ISD, city and county buildings within the county.
The new network also allows COMLINK to better service businesses in the area with high speed capabilities. COMLINK’s Royal Oak network construction complements the service provider’s strategy of providing broad range of business connectivity solutions powered by an expansive five-state fiber network and state-of-the-art datacenters.
