Commonwealth Connections Academy Class of 2014 Graduates Earn More Than $3 Million in Scholarship Awards
Harrisburg, PA (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- Collectively earning nearly $3 million in scholarship awards during the 2013–14 school year, Commonwealth Connections Academy’s Class of 2014 graduates have a bright future ahead of them. Approximately 655 students graduated from Commonwealth Connections Academy, the Pennsylvania tuition-free online public school celebrating its 10th successful year of providing students statewide with a high-quality education at home.
“We couldn’t be more proud of this year’s graduating class,” said Commonwealth Connections Academy CEO Maurice Flurie. “This was a big year for us as we celebrated our 10th anniversary, and we’re very excited to cap off the year with so many students being recognized for their academic achievement through scholarships, school acceptances, and job offers. Graduation ceremonies were held in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, the Pittsburgh-area and Jim Thorpe earlier this month, celebrating the graduating students who were able to walk across the stage and receive their diploma in front of friends, family and classmates. And just like Commonwealth Connections Academy’s classes, the ceremonies were also streamed live online so family and friends who could not attend in-person were able to join in on the occasion.
Flurie, the keynote speaker at each of the ceremonies, is confident that Commonwealth Connections Academy has prepared the students for their future endeavors and he mentioned that the students are pioneers in virtual learning who are well prepared for college and the workforce.
Commonwealth Connections Academy students have been accepted to colleges such as Penn State University, University of Pennsylvania and Bucknell University; other graduates are taking their talents to Texas State University, George Washington University, and Belmont University in Tennessee. Additionally, more than 130 students graduated with honors earning a 3.25 GPA or above.
“For the past decade, we have known exactly what was expected of us - go to school, get good grades, submit assignments on time. Now, however, our future is more uncertain. We have the power to choose how we are going to spend the rest of our lives,” said Mackenzie Steudler, a Commonwealth Connections Academy graduate and student speaker at the Jim Thorpe ceremony on Tuesday, June 10. Steudler, like many of her classmates, plans to attend college next year.
Commonwealth Connections Academy opened in 2003, so this graduating class marks the end of the 10th Anniversary celebration. The school has expanded its facilities and has grown from a small school of 400 students and 8 teachers to more than 8,000 students and 350 teachers who are all committed to the ongoing success of their students and graduates.
